Waking Vision formed in the year 2000 at Berklee College of Music in Boston by guitarist/songwriter John Shannon and drummer Martin Valihora who shared a similar goal to play improvised music that had a wide sonic vista, big energy and was connected to nature. After Valihora put together a tour in his native country of Slovakia the band embarked on their first tour and recorded their debut album The Ancient Bloom in Trnava, Slovakia which was released to critical acclaim and spread like wildfire amongst the young musician community at the time. They continued to tour throughout the years making two more recordings: Into the High Selva (2003) and Of the Waking Vision (2007). Now in 2023 they have come back together with upright bassist Peter Slavov (Joe Lovato, Paul Winter) to record their 4th album The Breathing Earth released summer of 2023 of which All About Jazz calls “A rich tapestry of sound” and Popular.Sk sais “…music that speaks directly to the soul because that’s where it comes from”.
